Shifting Left: Software Localization from Design and Development

The Motorola localization team supports many software development products and projects, and has been continuously integrating/automating localization with development for years.

They have been moving toward initiating localization during product and feature design stages, rather than waiting until development completion to begin the localization process. Ultimately, they are creating an infrastructure where design teams can self-serve their localization, in addition to their more hands-on interdepartmental localization efforts.

In this webinar discussion, we’ll cover:

  • Future directions including AI augmented solutions
  • The goals of “shifting left” into the design process
  • Guiding localization into the design process
  • Using longest string representation to help designers see the impact of localization on their layouts
  • Gathering visual context for more accurate translation of software strings
  • Discussing an exchange of ideas of where design and development integrate with localization
